Our Rehabilitation Center obtained very good results in 2016 in respect of both the number of patients and the quality of our services.

In Romania, the reptiles (thus the vipers too) hibernate in winter, so their annual activity period is from spring to autumn. But even during this period, the observations probability differs. Often snakes use common hibernacula, and that’s why in spring they may be crowded around the entry. These are the so called viper-nests people often speak about, and this is where you can observe spousal agglomerations as well. If one sees such a crowd (which is in fact a rarity), a misconception arises that the number of vipers increased! (more…)
For several weeks we paid attention to what happens in the monitored nest. Slowly but surely, the nest is being built thanks to the tireless work of the two storks who have decided to make their “home” right in front of our eyes! These two storks have no colour rings. (more…)
It took her 49 days to reach Brașov county! The Lesser Spotted Eagle began its long journey on February the 11th, crossing the Equator in early March, the Suez Canal…
A colour-ringed stork visited twice the nest with the webcam. Firstly on the 20th and after that on the 27th of March. Unfortunately it spent only a couple of minutes in the nest. On the second occasion we managed to read the ring code and our suspicion was confirmed: it is a stork breeding in the neighbouring village, Glodeni. The bird was ringed in 2002, it is a male and nests in Glodeni in the same nest since 2010. This is how long the first stork visit lasted at the webcam nest from Dumbrăvioara. It happened at the beginning of this week and it was just a breathing „stop” for the stork that headed towards Glodeni. In 2017, Arlie began its long journey to the nesting grounds in the Făgăraș Mountains, Brașov County, three days later than in last year (9 February). According to data from the device mounted on the back of the bird, Arlie already travelled 500 km in just three days. Experts from 27 countries participated at the Roller protection conference in Kecskemét
The number of Rollers has drastically decreased throughout Europe and the species has disappeared from several Western European countries. The Carpathian Basin’s population is considered stable, which makes its protection very important in order to maintain the species population on the level of the European Union. Smiles, stories and photos! The vernissage of the 8th International “Milvus” Nature Photography Contest’s exhibition turned into a meeting of friends of nature and wildlife. The two exhibition rooms became imaginary paths through the large world, trails crossed by those presents with curiosity for the captured subjects and interest for the techniques used. (more…)

Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus)
In 2010 Milvus Group Association began installing the first artificial nestboxes for Boreal Owl (Aegolius funereus) in the Călimani Mountains. During the following years we have continued this activity in other areas such as Gurghiu Mts, Giurgeu Basin and Ciuc Mts mounting several ten nestboxes. The nests are yearly monitored in order to know the occupancy rate and the breeding success.
Member of Milvus Group since 2005, at the same time founder of the Mammal Conservation Working Group, with main fields of interest in research and conservation of small mammals and large carnivores. Volunteer in the majority of ongoing activities, working in projects with aims to study mammal (bear, wolf, lynx, otter) populations in Natura 2000 sites for drafting management plans.

I graduated as a biologist at Babeş-Bolyai University, where I am currently doing my master studies in Terrestrial and Aquatic Ecology. At the university I study dragonflies. I have loved nature since childhood and have been involved in nature conservation in the Vargyas Gorges Nature Reserve. Member of Milvus Group from 2002. Her main activities are linked to raptor conservation and monitoring (mainly Golden Eagle and Peregrine Falcon conservation, raptor migration count). At the same time she participated in several surveys and monitoring programmes of different bird species. As an active member of the Environmental Education Working Group, she organizes different environmental education activities, excursions in kindergarten and primary schools, activities in Forest School for children. From 2009 she has been a licensed ringer, ringing birds with the aim of environmental education and bird monitoring in different ringing camps.

Member of Milvus Group since 1992. Graduated from the Faculty of Forestry (game management section) in Transylvania University of Brașov. His main activities are the study and conservation of raptors and owls, being involved in most projects regarding raptors, also coordinating some of them. He works mainly with species like Lesser Spotted Eagle, Red-footed Falcon, Common Kestrel, Long-legged Buzzard but he is interested in Long-eared Owl, Ural Owl, Tawny Owl, and Pygmy Owl too. He regularly visits the wetlands from the Western Plain, Transylvania and Dobruja. He doesn’t hide the fact that he likes to twitch rare birds, even if on the other side of the country. He is interested in migration of birds, especially raptors and has been a licensed ringer of the Romanian Ornithological Centre since 1995. He coordinates the Milvus Group’s database of ringed birds and recoveries. Szilárd is one of the administrators of the Rare Birds of the Carpathian Basin database.

Became a member of Milvus Group in 2002. Attila is coordinating several activities carried out in the western part of the country. He is the coordinator of our Red-footed Falcon conservation program. Beside of this, Attila is activating in conservation and research activities related to other species as the Great Bustard and the European Roller. He is responsible for two Natura 2000 sites from Bihor County, which are in the custody of Milvus Group. At present Attila is coordinating a POS project aiming to elaborate management plans for seven Natura 2000 sites. He is the leader of the branch of Milvus Group’s from Oradea.
