Main Goal
Ensure the long term survival and recovery of different wild mammal populations through species and habitat conservation in Romania.
Objectives
- -to improve knowledge about the distribution and status of Romanian mammals;
- -to identify endangering factors at local and national level;
- -to improve people’s knowledge and the public attitude towards different mammal species;
- -to develop action plans or local management plans for different threatened mammal species;
- -to implement direct conservation programs / activities for different threatened species
Activities
Creating a local strategy (Calimani and Gurghiului Mountains) for the conservation of the large carnivores;
Collection and destruction of traps and snares used by poachers;
Education of different target groups about several mammal species through field trips, presentations, slide shows, leaflets and brochures;
Evaluation of carnivore-inflicted damages, bear attacks on people;
Implementation and testing of damage prevention methods;
Behavioral study on a hand-raised wolf;
Study of carnivore biology
Working as a partner in the Natura 2000 Mammal Conservation Working Group
