A Red-breasted Goose, Whooper Swans, a Spoonbill and a Common Crane, rare observations at the Iernut and Cipău fishponds

birdwatching The birdwatching day was carried out at Iernut and Cipău fishponds which are Natura 2000 sites managed by Milvus Group as custodians.  Here, beside the members, volunteers and press were also present. The weather was excellent as well the bird diversity and let us to observe different waterfowl species in very good light conditions. The curiosities of the day were an adult Red-breasted Goose (Branta ruficollis) and 12 Whooper Swans (Cygnus cygnus) at Iernut and a young Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) and a young Common Crane (Grus grus) at Cipău, which are rare species for the area. In addition to the usual bird species, we also observed Black-throated Diver, Smews and Peregrine Falcons. A number of 50 people attended the fieldtrip.
