When we hear the word “adoption”, we usually think of a child who’s been lovingly welcomed into a new family. But adoption isn’t something reserved only for humans — it exists in the animal world too.

We’re talking about three Common kestrel chicks that arrived in the care of Ana, our volunteer in Oradea, who fed and looked after them for several days.

Our colleague, Lőrinc, walked through the kestrel colony in Mihai Bravu, looking for nests that already had chicks of similar age and size — to increase the chances of the newcomers being accepted by foster parents.

And it worked: the little ones are now enjoying the company of their “step-siblings” as they learn the ways of independent life.
