12 146 ringed birds in 2016 in the Chituc Ringing Camp!

The third year of ringing on the Chituc spit proved to be of an unexpected success: if the first 70 days of camp (from July 24th to October 1st) only 6459 birds were ringed, the last four weeks brought 5687 birds, among which two new species for the Romanian avifaunistic list and several species with less than 15 observations in the country. A stork with colour ring is “visiting” the nest. Will it occupy the nest?

1In 2016 we are experiencing some difficulties with the webcam nest. Compared to previous years, when the storks arrived in time but we had had technical problems with our webcam, this year the “problem” is with the storks. More exactly, with their absence from the nest. At the end of March a pair of stork was observed in the nest, but unfortunately they were just visitors from one of the neighbouring nests. (more…)

Rare Birds Ringed at Chituc Ringing Camp!

Milvus Group specialists have managed this summer to catch, ring and release some quite rare birds for Romania: Greenish Warblers (Phylloscopus trochiloides),  Pallas’s Leaf Warblers (Phylloscopus proregulus) and  Yellow-browed Warblers (Phylloscopus inornatus).

Until now, these birds have been seen only a few times in Romania. For example, the Yellow-browed Warbler catch is only the fifth and sixth observation of this species for the country! (more…)

The 2012 events from the stork nest with web camera

The events in the stork nest with the mounted web camera from Dumbrăvioara could be followed this year also on the Milvus Group webpage, unfortunately with some interruptions. In this year the camera was changed to a night-vision one, thus the storks in the nest were visible also in the dark.

Same as last year, this year the events turned out very interesting and surprising. (more…)

Natura 2000 network promoting camp

Between 16-21 july, 2012 Milvus Group organized an interesting camp for pupils from the Hârtibaciu – Târnava Mare – Olt area in the frame of the project entitled “For nature and local communities – the bases for a Natura 2000 integrated management in Hârtibaciu – Târnava Mare area”. The participants have been chosen from different localities on the strength of a previous test. A total of 27 children from 3 counties (Mureș, Sibiu, Brașov) had the opportunity to participate in the camp organized at the Cabana Trei Stejari pension, near Jibert (Brașov). The children were accommodated in tents and yurts. The aim of this camp was to bring attention on the importance of nature protection. (more…)

The 6th Forest School organized by Milvus Group

In the beginning of July 2012 Milvus Group organized the 6th traditional camp in the Forest School from Rigmani (Mureș county). This year the camp was financed by the Environmental Fund Administration (www.afm.ro) in the frame of the project entitled “Ecological education for a sustainable future”. The participants were accommodated in traditional tents called yurts. With the help of specialists, during the camp they had the opportunity to take part in new and interesting activities: they got acquainted with common amphibian and reptile species, the methods in studying the movements and behaviour of the brown bear, they visited a nearby bear den and during their trip a botanist presented plant species from different habitats. With the occasion of the “Integrated School Week” the Environmental Education Working Group of Milvus Group organized different activities for children and young people.

On the 3rd of April 2012 they organized an activity named “Detectives of Nature” on the Cornești Plateau (Tîrgu-Mureș) for 7 groups from kindergarten and elementary school. (more…)
