We invite you to join this year’s Great Backyard Bird Count, which brings together birdlovers from all around the world.
What is the Great Backyard Bird Count? It is a global bird counting programme, where nature lovers around the world are invited to observe and share the data about the birds they see in their backyard or wherever they are. This way, they can help specialists collect data about bird distribution and abundance.
How can you participate? It’s simple! Go outside, observe birds for at least 15 minutes on one or more days between 16 and 19 February, and record your observations on eBird.org or using the eBird Mobile app.
Why is this programme important? The data collected during the Great Backyard Bird Count will help specialists understand changes in bird distribution and abundance and provide valuable information about the health of ecosystems.
Last year 7,538 bird species, approximately 2/3 of the world’s known species were recorded during this event. Over a half a million people, from 202 countries uploaded 390,652 eBird checklists.
Don’t forget! We also have our own Romanian database where you can upload your bird observations – OpenBirdMaps and the associated mobile app OpenBioMaps. This app can be used at any time of the year to record birds and participate in our monitoring programmes.
