As in previous years, in 2017, members of the Milvus Group continued the nestbox mounting activity within the framework of the “Conservation of the European Roller in the Carpathian Basin (LIFE13/NAT/HU/000081)” project.
This year we already mounted 130 nestboxes, achieving thereby 400 artificial nestboxes placed out in the project area, safeguarding as a result safe and long term breeding opportunities for the roller population.
Nestboxes were placed on trees and disused concrete pylons.
During the project, we will mount a total number of 1,000 artificial nestboxes, these way we will cover almost entirely the suitable roller habitats in the Western Plains of Romania.
