Four activities, four opportunities for us to talk about birds and for families to connect with nature and take part together in what we hope was a memorable experience.
But let’s take them one by one.
At the end of 2024, at the Donors’ Circle organised by the Mureș Community Foundation, we presented the project “Family Days in Nature with the Milvus Group”. The project was born out of the desire to provide information and support to those who wish to get closer to nature and help wild birds.
The community supported our initiative, and in April 2025 we organised the first activity, inviting families to join us for a themed “bird-sound” walk. Although the rain that morning caused some concern, we were able to enjoy, together with the participating families, a Saturday filled with birdsong.
In May, families joined us on a hike in a protected area. We ringed birds, explored the forest and visited the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for Injured Wild Animals in Sânsimion (Mureș County).
The third activity focused on helping birds during the winter season. After learning the correct way to feed birds, we also met the visitors to our feeders during a ringing session. The final part of the event was a hands-on workshop where we built several types of bird feeders.
And so we reached the final activity, held recently: a workshop on building artificial nest boxes. It was a joy to see again the families who had joined us for the previous activities, as well as participants who crossed our threshold for the first time. Before getting to work, we spoke about the importance of artificial nest boxes and the species that can benefit from them.
We won’t say much about how the workshop itself unfolded — we’ll let the images speak for themselves.
This project once again convinced us that there is a real need for such activities and that there are families curious about the lives of birds and eager to help them.
Thank you to everyone who took part! We hope to see you again very soon.
