Leading experts in the field of vulture conservation and research spoke at the second European Vulture Conference in Cáceres (Spain) in mid-November. The event was organised by the Vulture Conservation Foundation, the leading wildlife organisation for vulture conservation in Europe, and included a top-level programme.  Threats to vultures and solutions to their management, methodologies for reintroduction programmes, ecological research and other studies related to vulture conservation and health were presented.

The conference was attended by all European entities involved in vulture conservation, reintroduction and research. The list of those present included experts from Africa, South and North America and Asia, who shared their experiences, problems and successes. The three-day series of presentations was accompanied by a field day, which provided the opportunity to visit four areas in Extremadura declared Special Protection Areas for birds. Besides the scientific presentations, the programme included cultural moments.

The Milvus Group was present as a partner in the ”Bearded Vulture LIFE” project, which aims the reintroduction of the Bearded Vulture and the strenghtening of the population of Cinereous Vulture in Bulgaria. Representatives of the association established contacts with various organizations working in vulture conservation and reintroduction in the hope of future cooperation.  

The conference was hosted by the Extremadura Municipality (Junta de Extremadura).
