The European Parliament has voted in favour of the final text of the Nature Restoration Law, following a lengthy negotiation concerning the content of the law. We would like to thank show our gratitude towards the members of the European Parliament for listening to the voices of more than 1 million citizens, companies, researchers and NGOs and paving the way for the first law of its kind.
Special thanks go to the Romanian members of the EP who voted in favour of a liveable future.
It is no longer enough to protect the nature we have left and this law is an opportunity to bring nature back to Europe. At a time when our continent is affected by floods, droughts and fires, this law can provide Europeans with a safer and healthier place to live.
Despite last-minute efforts by far-right and conservative groups and pseudo-information spread by the anti-conservation lobby to block the law, a majority of the Members remained faithful to the democratic legislative process and approved the tripartite agreement they negotiated last year.
As a final step in the process, the agreement must receive formal approval from member states, which is expected to take place in March or April this year.
