We live and feed off the land and are therefore dependent on the land. Nature is also dependent on the same land.
We believe that much of our landscape can accommodate large-scale natural processes and at the same time provide for human needs.
This is how the notion of “rewilding” comes about. The concept of preserving natural processes can lead us to think of the loss of arable land and automatically the loss of income for one group of people. What if we were to tell you that through this process we could increase the quality of soil and water and thus the quality of life, without anyone suffering financial loss?
Besides this result, the main benefits of rewilding are:
- Creating healthy ecosystems;
- Mitigating the extreme weather events;
- Developing ecotourism;
- Increasing air quality;
- Supporting local farmers, etc.
Over the last 2 years, in Erasmus + project, “Process oriented nature conservation”, we, the Milvus Group, together with 5 partner organisations from the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden have focused on finding solutions to counteract the loss of biodiversity, which ultimately has a major impact on our lives. These solutions have been compiled into a guide, which we hope will help us create healthy ecosystems that will bring long-term benefits to all stakeholders.
