On two weekends in October we organised bird ringing and bird watching activities in the Natura 2000 protected area between Lita and Săvădisla, near Cluj-Napoca. On 7 and 14 October (the second day coincided with International Migratory Bird Day), nets were set up between bushes to catch and observe species that are rarely seen by those present.
Participants – children and adults – were able to watch the whole ringing process: setting up the net, removing the birds from the nets, identifying species and age, measuring and, of course, releasing the birds.
Both migratory and resident species received individual rings. During these days we managed to ring species such as Great-, Blue- and Marst Tit, European Robin, Common Chiffchaff, Blackbird, Song Trush or Mistle Trush.
