A Saturday worth remembering

What could be more pleasant than spending a Saturday far from the city noise, surrounded by peaceful landscapes, soaking up the sun, exploring the beauty of the area, and enjoying the company of like minded people?

Nearly twenty enthusiastic participants — both children and adults — joined our trip organised as part of the “Family Days in Nature with Milvus Group” project. After meeting in front of the Cultural Centre in Rigmani, we set off on foot towards a meadow that is part of the Natura 2000 site – Târnava Hills – Niraj Valley.

With the help of two ornithological nets set up in the area, we managed to catch and show up close, then ring and release a European robin and a Great tit.

These unique moments, especially for the children, were followed by an adventurous exploration through the forest. During our walk, we identified animal tracks, marvelled at the many species of mushrooms we found, discussed the plants that make this area so special, and waited patiently to spot a Collared flycatcher returning to a nest box where it had laid its eggs.

After crossing the forest, we descended into the valley where the village of Sânsimion lies, nestled in a peaceful setting, embraced by nature. Our final stop was the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, where we visited animals in recovery and the Village Museum located in the centre’s courtyard, which recreates the traditional rural atmosphere of a historic home from the Niraj Valley.

We thank everyone who spent their Saturday with us and hope the experience was just as memorable for them as it was for us.
