We invite you to join us on a nature adventure! On 24 January, we will head to riverbanks to count dippers!
This is the 12th consecutive year of running the White-throated dipper Monitoring Programme. This species breeds along fast-flowing mountain rivers, while in winter it moves to the foothills or large gorges, where temperatures are a few degrees higher and the water rarely freezes completely. These conditions make counting easier and allow us to assess possible fluctuations in the breeding population.

The Milvus Group organises dipper monitoring at two locations (the Mureș and Crișul Repede rivers), where we survey longer river sections. In addition, smaller teams will also visit riverbanks at several other locations across the country.
You can read more about the methodology and results achieved so far here.
Join one of the teams or suggest new river sections where you would like to count dippers. For help in defining the area to be monitored and for further information about the methodology, please contact the programme coordinator, Zoltán Szabó D. (email: zoltan.d.szabo@milvus.ro, phone: 0745 590082).
