Biologists, zoologists are the first to sound the alarm when a species is endangered.
Species-specific monitoring programmes are among the most valuable ways we have for tracking the evolution of bird populations.
Over the course of a year we run 10 different monitoring programmes. Although each has its own methodology, they all have in common the field work of our colleagues and volunteers.
Whether it’s winter or summer, cold or hot, cloudy or sunny, participants walk the pre-determined routes and record the birds they see.
Here’s how a day in the field is spent looking for wintering birds of prey.
