When we join forces, we can achieve truly meaningful things. This is exactly what happened when we at the Milvus Group found a reliable partner in Betfair Romania Development, a company that understands how important it is to support nature and help endangered species.

Through the “Bet on Birds” project, we set out, together with this company, to continue the efforts we began many years ago to strengthen the population of the European roller – a species deeply affected by human activity, especially the felling of old trees.

As part of the project, we acquired 30 artificial nests made of woodcrete, a durable material capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions. With the help of volunteers from Spain and Germany, we installed these “homes” for the rollers in areas of Bihor and Arad counties where we had previously placed wooden nest boxes. Unfortunately, many of those were damaged or disappeared due to weather or human interference.

Now, all we can do is wait for the rollers to return from migration and hope that each artificial nest will become the home of a new family.

In just a few months, we will return to one of the project locations – specifically to Salonta – and invite the local community to get to know these wonderful birds up close during a bird ringing event.
