The results of previous years: 25 000 birds ringed.
The bird ringing camp organized on the Chituc sandbank in previous years (2014 and 2015) proved to be a success, a total of 24 996 birds were banded by ringers from Romania, Hungary and Israel. Due to the results of the previous years, the migration dynamics of 15 common migratory species are slowly taking shape. Probably the most important result of our camp is the ringing of total of 2828 red-breasted Flycatcher (Ficedula parva) in 2014 and 2015, possibly the highest number of this species ringed in migration in Central Europe. We will continue the ringing this year and we need the help of enthusiastic ringers and volunteers once again. The camp will begin on 24 July and will end after 14 weeks of intensive ringing. Those wishing to volunteer in the camp are asked to contact our colleague, Attila Marton at attila.marton@milvus.ro. The number of participants is limited. The Final Report of the 2015 Chituc Ringing Camp (in Romanian) can be downloaded here. We also recommend you to visit the camp’s Facebook page here.Chituc 2016 is starting!
