In June 2023, we took part in the fundraising event organised by the Mureș Community Foundation. Through our project “A City More Friendly to Nature”, which we entered in the Swimathon, we aimed to raise awareness about the bird species we live alongside, which visit our parks and delight us with their song in our gardens.

Five swimmers and an ambassador took part in the project, and thanks to your donations, we were able to create an informational panel, designed by Attila Deák, who invested a lot of time and passion into its creation.

The panel focuses on the importance of old, hollow trees: we learn which bird species use hollows as nesting sites and, if there are no old trees, how we can provide alternative nesting places for birds. There is also an exciting interactive section where we can peek inside a hollow and even experience how a woodpecker creates its nesting site.

We decided to place the panel in the courtyard of the Medieval Fortress of Târgu Mureș, which is increasingly visited by both locals and tourists.

This is only the first informational panel. We hope to create more bilingual panels on different themes, which we plan to install in various green areas around the city.
