Birds with injuries of varying severity arrive at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. In some cases, we know from the very moment they are admitted that their chances of survival are extremely slim. Even so, together with the veterinary surgeon, we do everything in our power for every single patient. Unfortunately, there are situations in which, despite all our efforts, the outcome cannot be changed.
There are also cases with a happy ending, such as that of the Common buzzard, which was found in Gherla in a weakened physical condition. It was transported to Cluj-Napoca for an initial examination and then transferred to Târgu Mureș, where Dr Borka Levente carried out a further assessment and confirmed that the bird was, in fact, healthy. Only three days of monitoring were required. The raptor fed well and flew without difficulty in the aviary, so there was no reason for it to remain at the centre.

Together with the volunteers who support us each day in caring for and feeding our patients, we searched for a suitable location for release. As expected, the buzzard took to the air without any difficulty, returning to where it belongs — the wild.
