It’s official! We have concluded the activities dedicated to the 2025 Endangered Species: the European roller.

On 13 December, the last activity of the year for the conservation of this beautiful bird took place: a tree-planting event, which in a few years will provide nesting sites for this species and others.

With the help of volunteers, we managed to plant around 50 saplings of various species, including maple, wild pear, grey poplar, and oak. We chose multiple species to ensure long-term nesting opportunities.

The weather was on our side, and the activity was a great success, although planting was somewhat challenging due to the very dry, almost drought-like soil.

Around the sapling cluster, we installed posts where protective netting will be placed to keep animals away and ensure the survival of the young trees.

In the coming days, we will plant the remaining approximately 40 saplings.

We thank Sălacea Town Hall and the local Animal Breeders’ Association for their support, as well as the volunteers who spent their Saturday with us and contributed to the conservation of the European Roller.
