The bird tangled in fishing wobblers entered the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for rehab, after Vets4Wild veterinarians successfully released the hooks from the its chin and shoulder. The 6th trimonthly report of the Milvus Rehabilitation Centre (January-March 2013)

Over these three months 10 new birds have arrived at the Centre, adding to the 6 who are already there. While this number of birds is approximately the same as in previous months, the number of people who contacted us dropped to 16 in this period. As is to be expected in these cold winter months, this has been a relatively quiet period in the Rehabilitation Centre.

Old issue, new cases – protected birds were poisoned again

Poisoned birds have again been found by Milvus Group employees near Salonta, Bihor County. Our environment gets poorer with every killed bird, especially with endangered, rare species such as these. Previously an Eastern Imperial Eagle was found poisoned, and recently a Pallid Harrier, a very rare bird that only passes through Romania in migration, was found. Legal investigations have started, and we hope that this time the authorities will act and finally someone will take responsibility for the poisoning that has troubled our country for so long and that this excessive raptor killing will be stopped. Recently reabilited and released birds

kek vercse_DiamondIn the last month, the rehabilitation of birds from our center has seen a remarkable success. After the birds were kept under continuous observation for a sufficient period of time for total recovery, six birds has been released. The Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) was confiscated wit the help of Lucian Pârvulescu from an illegal owner, approximately one year ago.
