Az <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/species\/22691900\/119044104\">IUCN V\u00f6r\u00f6slist\u00e1n sebezhet\u0151 kateg\u00f3ri\u00e1ban<\/a> szerepl\u0151 faj \u00e1llom\u00e1nya rendk\u00edv\u00fcli hanyatl\u00e1st szenvedett term\u00e9szetes \u00e9l\u0151helyeinek, az eur\u00e1zsiai sztyepp\u00e9knek fragment\u00e1ci\u00f3ja k\u00f6vetkezt\u00e9ben. Az 1950-es \u00e9vek k\u00f6zep\u00e9re a t\u00fazok Eur\u00f3pa t\u00f6bb r\u00e9gi\u00f3j\u00e1b\u00f3l kipusztult. Ez t\u00f6rt\u00e9nt Rom\u00e1ni\u00e1ban is, ahol az \u00e1llamos\u00edt\u00e1st k\u00f6vet\u0151en a gyepeket (term\u00e9szetes \u00e9l\u0151helyeiket) besz\u00e1ntott\u00e1k \u00e9s sz\u00e1nt\u00f3ter\u00fcletekk\u00e9 alak\u00edtott\u00e1k \u00e1t. A mez\u0151gazdas\u00e1g g\u00e9pes\u00edt\u00e9se, a vad\u00e1szat illetve orvvad\u00e1szat szint\u00e9n hozz\u00e1j\u00e1rultak az \u00e1llom\u00e1ny cs\u00f6kken\u00e9s\u00e9hez.<br>Am\u00edg a XIX. sz\u00e1zadban stabil \u00e1llom\u00e1nyok \u00e9ltek a B\u00e1ns\u00e1gban, a Partiumban, az Erd\u00e9lyi Mez\u0151s\u00e9gen, a Rom\u00e1n Alf\u00f6ld\u00f6n, Dobrudzs\u00e1ban \u00e9s Moldva egyes r\u00e9szein, 1988-ban a korabeli vad\u00e1szati adatok alapj\u00e1n az eg\u00e9sz orsz\u00e1gban m\u00e1r csak k\u00f6r\u00fclbel\u00fcl 48 t\u00fazok l\u00e9tezett. 1990 ut\u00e1n imm\u00e1r Rom\u00e1ni\u00e1b\u00f3l kipusztult fajk\u00e9nt tartott\u00e1k sz\u00e1mon.<br>M\u00e1sr\u00e9szt viszont alapos okunk van azt hinni, hogy a Bihar megyei Nagyszalonta a t\u00fazok utols\u00f3 rom\u00e1niai mentsv\u00e1ra maradt. Az elm\u00falt 13 \u00e9vben v\u00e9gzett terepi megfigyel\u00e9seink meger\u0151s\u00edtik, hogy egy kicsi, k\u00f6r\u00fclbel\u00fcl 40 egyedb\u0151l \u00e1ll\u00f3, orsz\u00e1ghat\u00e1ron \u00e1t\u00edvel\u0151 \u00e9l\u0151helyeket haszn\u00e1l\u00f3 popul\u00e1ci\u00f3 \u00e9l a Nagyszalonta-Mez\u0151gy\u00e1n t\u00e9rs\u00e9gben. Megeml\u00edtj\u00fck tov\u00e1bb\u00e1, hogy ennek a fajnak egyik jellemz\u0151je az, hogy \u00e1ltal\u00e1ban ott k\u00f6ltenek, ahol a d\u00fcrg\u00e9s (ez a h\u00edm t\u00fazokok udvarl\u00e1si ritu\u00e1l\u00e9ja) is t\u00f6rt\u00e9nik (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UMu-aNTNvMg&amp;feature=emb_title\">l\u00e1sd a mell\u00e9kelt vide\u00f3t a t\u00fazok kakas
