Sz\u00e9les elterjed\u00e9si ter\u00fclettel rendelkezik, az Ib\u00e9riai-f\u00e9lszigett\u0151l eg\u00e9szen Mong\u00f3lia nyugati r\u00e9sz\u00e9ig. Telelni Afrik\u00e1ba illetve Indi\u00e1ba j\u00e1r. Tipikusan alf\u00f6ldi elterjed\u00e9s\u0171 faj, azonban helyenk\u00e9nt 1500 m\u00e9ter magass\u00e1gban is el\u0151fordulhat. Rom\u00e1niai elterjed\u00e9s\u00e9re vonatkoz\u00f3 ismereteink hi\u00e1nyosak, azonban \u00edgy is val\u00f3sz\u00edn\u0171, hogy a k\u00f6lt\u0151 p\u00e1rok sz\u00e1ma j\u00f3val 100 alatt van.\n\nA hamvas r\u00e9tih\u00e9j\u00e1t legink\u00e1bb vesz\u00e9lyeztet\u0151 t\u00e9nyez\u0151k egyike a term\u00e9szetes gyepek sz\u00e1nt\u00f3f\u00f6ldekk\u00e9 val\u00f3 \u00e1talak\u00edt\u00e1sa, mivel ez ut\u00f3bbi \u00e9l\u0151helyeken a k\u00f6lt\u00e9si siker j\u00f3val alacsonyabb az arat\u00e1s \u00e1ltal okozott fi\u00f3kapusztul\u00e1s miatt.
