The newest patient at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre<\/strong><\/a> is a European goldfinch<\/strong> (<\/span>Carduelis carduelis<\/span><\/i>), a small songbird weighing less than 20 grams. It arrived with feathers torn from one wing<\/strong> by the glue used to trap it, intended to be sold.<\/span><\/p>

However, it was not the only bird destined for trafficking<\/strong>. The Mure\u0219 County Police Inspectorate discovered two cages in a residence in T\u00e2rgu Mure\u0219, containing 12 birds<\/strong> \u2013 7 European goldfinches<\/strong>, 2 European greenfinches<\/strong>, 2 Eurasian siskins<\/strong>, and 1 Common linnet<\/strong>.<\/span> \n<\/span><\/p>

At the request of law enforcement, the National Environmental Guard \u2013 Mure\u0219 County Commissariat took over the birds. Fortunately, all of them \u2013 except for one goldfinch \u2013 were healthy enough to be released. \n<\/p>

The injured little bird was brought to us, where it will stay for at least two months<\/strong>, until its wing feathers grow back and it can once again enjoy its freedom.<\/span><\/p>

This is a case with a happy ending, but not all stories end so well. Illegal hunting and trapping of birds in Europe and the Mediterranean region are recognised as a serious threat to some species.
