{"id":45200,"date":"2025-01-22T09:02:26","date_gmt":"2025-01-22T07:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/petition-against-the-criminal-poisoning-of-european-wildlife\/"},"modified":"2025-01-22T09:08:41","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T07:08:41","slug":"petition-against-the-criminal-poisoning-of-european-wildlife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/petition-against-the-criminal-poisoning-of-european-wildlife\/","title":{"rendered":"Petition against the criminal poisoning of european wildlife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Illegal poisoning<\/strong> threatens many rare and protected species of birds and mammals, while also endangering the public and their pets.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initial data from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.life-eurokite.eu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LIFE EUROKITE<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project (LIFE18 NAT\/AT\/000048), focused on the cross-border protection of the Red kite (<em>Milvus milvus<\/em>) species in Europe by reducing human-induced mortality, indicate that poisoning is by far the leading cause of human-induced mortality for this species.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In October 2024, the initiators of this project, alongside numerous European wildlife protection and conservation organisations, launched a <strong>petition<\/strong> urging members of the European Parliament to find cross-border solutions at the EU level to address the issue of poisoning affecting migratory species.<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\r\n<p class=\"responsive-video-wrap clr\"><iframe title=\"CPEW - Campaign against criminal Poisoning of European Wildlife\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GMbQir4FYaE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<\/div><\/figure><p>The petition\u2019s initiators propose:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting the <strong>\u201cEuropean day against criminal poisoning of wildlife\u201d\u00a0<\/strong> on 1st March to raise awareness among the general public and policymakers, as the issue is underestimated and poorly known.<\/span><\/li>\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Systematically collecting data<\/strong> across Europe to create a database of poisoning cases and identify &#8220;hotspots&#8221;. Ideally, this database should be managed by the European Union or one of its organisations.<\/span><\/li>\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Strengthening and vigorously continuing the 2020\u20132030 Rome Strategic Plan<\/strong> (Eradicating Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade in Wild Birds in Europe and the Mediterranean region).<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight:
