A real autumn weather, cloudy, foggy, drizzling and rainy, greeted the bird lovers gathered on the bank of lake Ciurila near Cluj Napoca. Fortunately, the reward for their determination came quickly, and soon they were able to watch birds swimming on the water and flying in the air under a breathtaking rainbow, which appeared on the sky.<\/p>

Ducks made up the majority of the waterbirds seen, but herons, egrets, cormorants and grebes were also present. A solitary Canada goose was also seen, a species native in North-American, which has been introduced to Western Europe a long time ago, but rarely seen in our country. <\/p>

As a special surprise, a mammal also made an appearance. An otter emerged from the reeds, made a short walk on the bank and then swam to the other side for all to see. \n<\/p>

In a short time, the 15 participants recorded 23 species, using binoculars and telescopes they could carefully observe the stamps that are important for identification. \n \n<\/p>

On 12 October, two important days overlapped: World Migratory Bird Day, with this year’s theme being the relationship between birds and insects, and Global Big Day, a worldwide birdwatching event. The latter was attended by 44 204 birdwatchers, who recorded a total of 7 860 species in nearly 100 000 complete lists.<\/p>
