{"id":43171,"date":"2024-10-07T14:42:25","date_gmt":"2024-10-07T11:42:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/7-500-birds-ringed-at-chituc-ringing-camp-up-until-now\/"},"modified":"2024-10-07T17:59:57","modified_gmt":"2024-10-07T14:59:57","slug":"7-500-birds-ringed-at-chituc-ringing-camp-up-until-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/7-500-birds-ringed-at-chituc-ringing-camp-up-until-now\/","title":{"rendered":"7 500 birds ringed at Chituc Ringing Camp up until now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are halfway through the <strong>11<\/strong><\/span><strong>th<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> consecutive season of ringing on Chituc Spit<\/strong> and we can confidently say that we have a slightly better year than the average: <strong>we ringed 7500 individuals of 73 species<\/strong>. As the species that migrate earlier mostly left, while the late migrants are just arriving to our area, the commotion shifted from the nets in the reeds to the ones in the bushes. Interestingly, this year we have a good catch of water rails (<em>Rallus aquaticus<\/em>), cuckoos (<em>Cuculus canorus<\/em>) and nightjars (<em>Caprimulgus europaeus<\/em>).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><p>On the illustration below you can see the number of birds ringed of the most common species this year (red bars) compared to their decadal average (orange bars) is shown.\r\n<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid1-1024x768.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid1-1024x768.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid1-1024x768.png 1024w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid1-600x450.png 600w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid1-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid1-768x576.png 768w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid1-1536x1152.png 1536w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid1.png 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The number of birds ringed in the first half of the camp in 2024, compared to the yearly average number of birds ringed between 2014-2023.<\/span><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the first half of the ringing season we caught three rare species : a Blyth\u2019s reed warbler (<em>Acrocephalus dumetorum<\/em>, 3<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Romania), a Western Bonelli\u2019s warbler (<em>Phylloscopus bonelli<\/em>, 2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nd<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the camp), and a little bunting (<em>Emberiza pusilla<\/em>, 4<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the camp).&nbsp;<\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"4398\" height=\"2475\" src=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2.png 4398w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2-600x338.png 600w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2-2048x1153.png 2048w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/mid2-800x450.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 4398px) 100vw, 4398px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Blyth\u2019s reed warbler, the Western Bonelli\u2019s warbler and the little bunting.<\/span><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><p>&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, we got news about two new international recaptures, both ringed in the first week of September 2023: a <strong>Willow warbler<\/strong> (<em>Phylloscopus trochilus<\/em>) was recaptured in Murmansk, Russian Federation, while a <strong>Reed warbler<\/strong> (<em>Acrocephalus scirpaceus<\/em>) was recaptured near Neve Yam, Israel. The willow warbler represents the northernmost recapture of a bird ringed both at our camp and by Milvus Group throughout the years.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The camp is heavily reliant on<strong> fundraising<\/strong>, and we are very grateful to have such great community of friends who <strong>contribute financially to our cause<\/strong> yearly.
