{"id":42394,"date":"2024-07-18T11:06:12","date_gmt":"2024-07-18T08:06:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/find-out-what-birds-breed-in-your-neighborhood\/"},"modified":"2024-07-18T11:26:58","modified_gmt":"2024-07-18T08:26:58","slug":"find-out-what-birds-breed-in-your-neighborhood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/find-out-what-birds-breed-in-your-neighborhood\/","title":{"rendered":"Find out what birds breed in your neighborhood!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the second year in a row, we have been working on <strong>mapping the breeding bird species in T\u00e2rgu Mures<\/strong> (Mures County) and <strong>Odorheiu Secuiesc<\/strong> (Harghita County). This is a missing initiative, as in Romania only Cluj-Napoca has a similar bird atlas.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tirgu Mures was divided into 95 squares of 500&#215;500 m and Odorheiu Secuiesc into 35 such&nbsp; squares, with surveyors spending an hour in each square actively searching for birds and recording their behaviour if they indicated breeding or territory protection. In addition to these, <strong>29 other bird species are likely to breed<\/strong> in the city, but no clear signs were observed. Photo: Attila Nagy<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the information available so far, <strong>the most frequently sighted species in T\u00e2rgu Mures<\/strong> is the House sparrow (<em>1 247 sightings<\/em>). This is followed by the Common blackbird (<em>972<\/em>), the Domestic pigeon (<em>939<\/em>) and the Eurasian collared dove&nbsp; (<em>647<\/em>). In <strong>Odorheiu Secuiesc<\/strong>, the most common species is also the House Sparrow (<em>1 161 sightings<\/em>), followed by the Eurasian collared dove (<em>427<\/em>) and the Black redstart (<em>398<\/em>).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mapping the bird species that breed in cities has a <em>social purpose<\/em>, as it helps us all to learn about the birds in our environment, and it also <strong>promotes the concept of citizen science<\/strong>, where anyone can get involved in the research process.
