{"id":41008,"date":"2024-01-03T10:41:51","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T08:41:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/17-years-of-service-for-injured-animals\/"},"modified":"2024-01-03T10:54:02","modified_gmt":"2024-01-03T08:54:02","slug":"17-years-of-service-for-injured-animals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/17-years-of-service-for-injured-animals\/","title":{"rendered":"17 years of service for injured animals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of each year, we draw a line and look back at what we have achieved and what we have failed to accomplish.&#13;\n<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, our <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/wildlife-rehabilitation-centre\/\">Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which <strong>has been running for 17 years, treated 150 injured animals<\/strong>. These chicks require constant attention and feeding, and thanks to our volunteers we were able to meet this challenge. The number of calls to our emergency number also increased significantly during this period, with around<strong> 1,000 calls between May and September alone<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Fioka-1024x709.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"709\" src=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Fioka-1024x709.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40988\" srcset=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Fioka-1024x709.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Fioka-600x416.jpg 600w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Fioka-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Fioka-768x532.jpg 768w, https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Fioka.jpg 1494w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div><p><\/p><p><strong>Half of the animals released<\/strong><\/p><p>Unfortunately, we often have to deal with electrocution cases, which rarely have a successful outcome, but also with many cases in which the wild animal was hit by a car or collided with glass.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of our 150 patients, <strong>78 recovered and were successfully returned to their natural habitat<\/strong>. We presented some of these cases during the year. In March, we reported about the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/another-succesful-rehabilitation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">common buzzard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a broken wing that was declared fit to fly after a month of care. In April it was the turn of the three white storks who had spent the winter with us to fly free. In the same month we released <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/two-white-tailed-eagles-flying-free-again\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two white-tailed eagles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after our colleagues fitted them with satellite devices. We must also remember the day when <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/the-sky-was-covered-by-healed-birds\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the skies filled with recovered birds<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Although most of the patients came to us from Mures county, we received animals from all over the country,<strong> thanks to animal lovers and the many vets we are in contact with <\/strong>and \u00a0who care for the animals until they reach us.
