Ornithologists from the “Milvus Group” and the Romanian Ornithological Society<\/a> (BirdLife Romania) monitored the population of Lesser Spotted Eagles in areas in which have been known previously to be nesting, specifically in protected areas as the hills of T\u00e2rnava and Niraj Valley, H\u00e2rtibaciu Valley and F\u0103g\u0103ra\u0219 Mountain\u2019s foothill.<\/p>

Even though the eagle pairs were observed in most of the investigated territories, they did not occupied the nests known by us, or many of them did not breed at all. For this reason, only about 20% of the known pairs have successful breeding.<\/p>

The particularly warm and dry summer was not favorable for the eagles. We consulted with colleagues form other European countries that have significant populations of eagles, and so we learned that the situation is similar to our findings.<\/p>

The action of monitoring the eagles\u2019 nests takes place annually. Actually the two organizations have developed  during 2010 and 2014 a joint project  – LIFE08 NAT\/RO\/000501 <\/a>with the Romanian Agency for Environment Protection \u2013
