{"id":15106,"date":"2012-03-13T21:48:48","date_gmt":"2012-03-13T19:48:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/2012\/03\/13\/midwinter-waterbird-census\/"},"modified":"2023-03-07T16:05:04","modified_gmt":"2023-03-07T14:05:04","slug":"recensamantul-de-iarna-al-pasarilor-de-apa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/en\/recensamantul-de-iarna-al-pasarilor-de-apa\/","title":{"rendered":"Midwinter Waterbird Census"},"content":{"rendered":"This year, between 10th and 20th January \u201cMilvus Group&#8221; Association together with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sor.ro\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Romanian Ornithological Society<\/a> (SOR) organized again the annual census of the wintering waterfowl (Midwinter Waterbird Census) in Romania. The event is coordinated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wetlands.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wetlands International<\/a>. Data for our organization were sent by our members and also by other volunteers, totalizing 49 participants. They made observations in 92 different areas and locations from the range of 24 counties. In total there were counted 226,565 birds belonging to <a href=\"https:\/\/milvus.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/sszesites-Midwinter-2012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">127 species<\/a>. From this, a number of 188,809 specimens (which means 83.3% from the total) belong to different waterbird and aquatic species. The five most common species were the Mallard (<em>Anas platyrhynchos<\/em>) \u2013 80,063 ex., the Coot (<em>Fulica atra<\/em>) \u2013 27,082 ex., the Rook (<em>Corvus frugilegus<\/em>) \u201323166 ex., the White-fronted Goose (<em>Anser albifrons<\/em>) \u2013 18,214 ex. and the Cormorant (<em>Phalacrocorax carbo<\/em>) \u2013 6,093 ex..<!--more-->Large gulls (which was not always separated by the observers) as the Caspian and the Yellow-legged Gull (<em>Larus cachinnans\/michaellis<\/em>) taken together, were also well represented, totalizing 16,141 individuals.\u00a0Among the more interesting or scarce species we can mention the Velvet Scoter (<em>Melanitta fusca<\/em>) \u2013 3 ex., Long-tailed Duck (<em>Clangula hyemalis<\/em>) \u2013 2 ex., Woodcock (<em>Scolopax rusticola<\/em>) \u2013 1 ex., Black-legged Kittiwake (<em>Rissa tridactyla<\/em>) \u2013 1 ex. and Snow Bunting (<em>Plectrophenax nivalis<\/em>) \u2013 11 ex.
