The project is co-financed by Michael Otto Stiftung. In 2014 the local water management authority plans to execute a project to increase flood security along the lower parts of the biodiversity rich Niraj/Nyárád River. Because that project considers only flood management but not nature protection, draught management, etc., we consider that is important to prevent a same situation in the case of the upper Niraj/Nyárád valley.  Therefore within the framework of this project we try to prepare an alternative plan for the flood management of the upper Niraj/Nyárád River and try to provide a good example with a small-scale restoration action (restoration of gravel-mine, an oxbow of the Târnava Mică/Kis-Küküllő River).
