veszmadarOn the 8th of August participants of the Chituc ringing camp found a weakened Yelkouan Shearwater (Puffinus yelkouan) in the sea, near the shore. After it was captured, the bird was examined and fed with small-sized fish. Since the bird’s condition had not improved, the following day we contacted Emil Todorov, who called specialists of S.E.O.P.M.M. Oceanic Club Constanța. The bird was transported to Constanța for rehabilitation purposes, and hopefully will soon be released. The Yelkouan Shearwater is a vulnerable endemic species of the Mediterranean Basin with an estimated world population of just 15300-30500 pairs.
