Cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) on the Mureș River. In the period of 2005 November and 2006 February the Milvus Group’s ornithologists reported flocks with 300 – 900 individuals at the Mureș River, between localities Brâncovenești and Luduș. In winter of 2007 the birds reappeared again; flocks counting 200 – 400 specimens can be seen regularly also above the town of Tg. – Mureș. Despite the fact that in previous years we saw Great Cormorants also during their late fall – winter roaming, we considered worthy to note the presence of the species in such big number in Central Transylvania.
Great Cormorants on the Mureș River
In winter of 2005 – 2006 we observed for the first time unusually numerous flocks of Great Cormorants (Phalacrocorax carbo) on the Mureș River.
