Yesterday morning in Târgu Mureş, a Yellow-Legged Gull nestling fell from about 15 meters. It was ringed and with the help of some good people, we managed to place it on a terraced roof near the nest, from where it could call its parents. The adults did appear almost immediately, hovering above us constantly, while we took care of the little one.
We are in the period when young birds are leaving the nests! Please do not “save them”, try to place them on a higher perch (trees, terraces) where they will be in safety. The parents will take care of them!
Following an analysis and assessment according several criteria, our jury decided that the following projects will be funded in the following year: Slejiuc Ionela Marilena, first place with the “Study of the distribution of herpetofauna species in Timiș county”, Alina Georgiana Cislariu, second place with „Chorological and populational studies of Ligularia sibirica și Ligularia glauca glacial relics in Romanian Flora” and Kiss Valentin Adrian, third place „Monitoring and protection through popularizing the avifauna of Câmpenești”. Monitoring soaring bird (raptors, storks, pelicans) migration has always been one of the flagship activities of Milvus Group. Using an extensive data set collected between 2002-2007 and 2010 – 2011 from Dobrogea, we now bring scientific evidence that Dobrogea (region in southeastern Romania) is a major migration corridor for large-sized soaring birds during the autumn migration season. In our latest article published in ARDEA, the official scientific journal of the Netherlands Ornithologists’ Union since 1912, we provide the most comprehensive overview to date of the autumn passage of soaring birds over Dobrogea, describing species composition, species-specific migration intensity and phenology, and the main geographical routes of migrating soaring birds over the area.
