In the past five years of ringing on Chituc Spit 65630 individuals of 150 species were caught, the most abundant species being: Red-breasted Flycatcher (Ficedula parva, 6552 individuals), Robin (Erithacus rubecula, 5854 individuals), Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus, 5661 individuals), Eurasian Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus, 5080 individuals), Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus, 3875 individuals) and Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio, 3849 individuals). With the 9340 ringed birds in 1996 and 1997, the first two years of the camp, the total number of ringed birds rises to 74969. Here, we present the migration dynamics of 15 species. In the seven years, the ringing camp had three national and eight international recaptures, and four individuals bearing foreign rings were resighted or recaptured. The ringing camp contributed with six new additions to the avifaunistic list of Romania, namely: Pallas’s Leaf Warbler (Phylloscopus proregulus) and Greenish Warbler (Phylloscopus trochiloides) in 1996, Desert Warbler (Sylvia nana) in 2017, Green Warbler (Phylloscopus nitidus) and Rustic Bunting (Emberiza rustica) in 2016 and Red-flaked Bluetail (Tarsiger cyanurus) in 2017. Once again, we count on the help of enthusiastic ringers and volunteers! The camp will start on the 7th of July and will end after 17 weeks of intensive ringing. Those wishing to volunteer in the camp are asked to contact our colleague, Attila Marton at attila.marton@milvus.ro. The number of participants is limited. The Chituc Ringing Camp Report for 2014-2018 can be downloaded here (text in Romanian, but abstract and image captions in English). We also recommend you to visit the camp’s Facebook page here.
