Wildlife Crime

Main goal

To contribute to the winding up of wildlife crime trough strict application of existing legislation, trough close cooperation with authorities involved in the implementation process and trough awareness raising and education activities.

Objectives

  • setting up volunteer networks for the monitoring of different aspects of wildlife crime;
  • to acquire volunteer environmental agent status of our volunteers;
  • to change the attitude of authorities towards wildlife crime, which is still considered a minor contravention;
  • to inform the relevant authorities and force out concrete actions if violation of relevant legislation occurs;
  • to build up cooperative relations with different stakeholders, and to involve personally key persons

Activities

  • Creation of a functional volunteer network for the monitoring of trade in protected animals on home markets;Details
  • Establishment of good working relations with the some regional Environmental Protection Agencies, Forestry Authorities and Hunting Associations;
  • Publishing two special posters emphasizing on different aspects of wildlife crime with special target groups (persecution of raptors by hunters and trading protected birds on home markets);
  • Direct actions against poachers on the field in cooperation with different authorities;
  • Publishing awareness raising materials, publishing more than 100 newspaper articles about wildlife crime, editing special issues of own publication, cooperation with the electronic media
