Main Goal
To create the conditions needed for the surviving of breeding waterbirds in Romania and a safe migration for those in passage.
Objectives
- to monitoring the relevant sites for the breeding and migration of waterbirds;
- to evaluate the breeding populations of the target species regularly regarding to get up-to-date knowledge about their trends;
- the elaboration of National Action Plans for the target species;
- the improving of nesting circumstances for waterbirds (especially for target species) in sites with high strategic importance;
- to elaborate and execute plans for habitat reconstructions;
- designation of protected areas;
- controlling of hunting on waterbird species.
Activities, results
- monitoring of the important habitats for waterbirds in Transylvania;
- development and uploading of a Waterbird database;
- demonstration of breeding of some species in Romania (ex. Common Merganser);contributing to European-wide waterbird counting actions;controlling of hunting and poaching activities made on waterbirds;
- producing and installation of artificial nesting islands, especially for terns;
- ringing activities in colonies (terns, herons, etc.).
