The project “Systematic environmental education program in Mures County”, financed by Administraţia Fondului pentru Mediu (www.afm.ro) started in autumn 2007. Main objectives of the project are: ecological education of preschool and school children from 20 pilot groups, vocational training on environmental education for kindergarten and school teachers from Mureş county and editing a series of publication in this domain. The children’s education is realised through a series of 10 presentations – combined with different games – one presentation monthly during the 2007/2008 school year. Besides the indoor activities, children and teachers are involved in different field activities in the so-called „Open-air School” from Rigmani, Mureş county.
The Milvus Group in the past has taken it upon themselves to take on injured wild birds under their care with the little equipment they had and the help of a few veterinarians to aid these animals. In 2007, Milvus was granted a USAID grant to help set up the foundations of the premiere rehabilitation center for white storks and raptors in Romania. The grant went towards building cages and a flight pen that are used the in processes of rehabilitation. With Milvus’ trailblazing tactics, they are making an impact on environmental concerns that are still apparent after the fall of communism 18 years ago.
