Mallard releasing

On the 10th of January 2008 aweakened Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) was found in Târgu Mures by Domokos E. The bird was handed in to the Milvus Group and after a quick examination we could not detect any external injuries or fractures. After monitoring the bird in captivity for one day we decided to mark the bird with a ring and release it at the barrage on the Mures River. Due to the open water surface this place is regularly used by wintering waterfowl. After releasing, the bird swam directly to a flock of Mallards and mixed with them. One week later it was seen on the same spot, swimming and preening.

Bird poachers caught near Tg-Mures

On the 3rd of January 2008 near Sângeorgiu de Mureş(Mureş County) the local gamekeeper Pál Tamás with his colleague detected poachers, who were catching songbirds using viscous sticks. After the gamekeeper controlled them, he found 6 Goldfinches (Carduelis carduelis), 4 Linnets (Carduelis cannabina) and 1 Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula). All 11 songbirds and also 10 small sized cages were confiscated. After the bird’s condition was controlled by Daróczi J. Sz., all birds were ringed and released successfully. It is worthy to mention the approach of certain gamekeepers implicated in activities which helps the diminution of delinquency against small songbirds and their illegal trade.
